1992 narrated thirty years later
exhibition organized by Prato City Council
5 March-05 April 2022 – Prato (PO)
Prato City Council and the Pecci Museum Centre for Contemporary Art, in collaboration with the Under 26 members of the Officina delle Voci project, promoted this event 5 March-5 April 2022 titled NOVANTADUE NINETY-TWO – 1992 narrated thirty years later: A series of meetings, shows, talks and exhibitions to narrate and think deeply about 1992, a year that more than any other, with the end of the First Republic’s political parties and the period of Mafia massacres, changed the face and recent history of Italy.
The exhibition scheduled Saturday 5 March 2022 at 11:00 in Piazza Santa Maria delle Carceri was inaugurated with the work The Spiral of Life by Gianfranco Meggiato. An installation – curated by Mirco Marin – comprising more than 1,400 jute bags dedicated to the innocent victims of the mafia as a public monument of pain and memory. A new vital hope stands in the middle of the spiral structure as a symbol of rebirth: the sculpture My Free Thought rising to a height of four metres. This is a re- edition of the first huge installation honouring victims of the mafia set up in Palermo in 2018 as a collateral work during Manifesta12, the European Biennial of Contemporary Art.
